Why 10-finger writing is more relevant to me than ever before — especially as a Webflow developer in the age of AI

I was never the great writer. My focus was on design — moving pixels, arranging elements with the mouse, refining layouts. For me, writing was more of a means to an end.

But since AI tools such as ChatGPT have become an integral part of my workflow — and at the same time I've gone deeper and deeper into Webflow development I joined — my working style has completely changed.

And that is exactly why 10-finger writing is more relevant to me today than ever.

From pixel pushing to efficient prompt writing

My tool used to be the mouse — today it's the keyboard.

The creative process often starts with a text: an AI prompt, a CSS class name, a quick idea that needs to be formulated. As a Webflow developer, I write every day:

  • Prompts for AI
  • structured class names in client-first
  • Comments, snippets, and documentation
  • Chat messages in Slack, feedback to customers
  • dynamic content structures via keyboard

Add to that Shortcuts in Webflow, VS Code, Figma, Chat Tools & Co. — typing is no longer an accessory, but a central part of my work.

The faster and more securely I can write, the more efficiency, I regain focus and creative freedom.

Voice control? Useful — but not (yet) a substitute

Yes, voice input can help in many situations — especially when you want to quickly record ideas or write something down on the go. And when working with AI tools, dictation is also getting better.

But: When it comes to customer communication, precise work, or when writing clean code, I often reach limits with language.

Recognition errors, unwanted wording and lack of control make rework time-consuming — fast, clear typing (still) has a clear advantage here.

The keyboard — (still) the central efficiency tool

For decades, the keyboard has been the standard interface for digital work. And although AI glasses, voice input and gesture control are constantly being developed — It currently remains the most precise and fastest toolthat we have.

Maybe that will change at some point. But Until then, 10-finger typing is a real productivity booster for me with extremely little learning effort.

How much time can you really save

The figures speak for themselves:

  • 2-finger system: Ø 20-30 words/minute
  • 10-finger system: Ø 60-90 words/minute
  • professionals: 100+ words/minute

Extrapolated to everyday life:

Time saved with 1h typing work/dayper daycca 30 minutesper weekcca 2.5 hoursper monthcca 10 hoursper yearvia 120 hours

That are more than 15 full working days per year, which you can get back just by writing faster.

Shortcuts: The ultimate discipline for efficient workflows

As a Webflow developer, I use every day keyboard shortcutsto optimize my processes. They enable me to navigate faster, work more precisely, and complete recurring tasks with minimal effort.

Shortcuts reduce click paths, don't interrupt the workflow and ensure that I can remain completely focused — especially in complex tools such as Webflow, design software or code editors.

Keyboard mastery + shortcuts = maximum efficiency gain — and with one of the lowest learning costs ever.

Learning pays off — right now

I never thought that writing with 10 fingers would be a real upgrade for my work. But especially at a time when AI, web development and communication are so closely interlinked, Typing security is a real competitive advantage.

Last thoughts

Perhaps in the future we will only work with glasses and voice input. Perhaps the keyboard will disappear completely at some point.

But until then, it's the most reliable, fast, and accurate tool in my everyday digital life —

10-finger writing is a small upgrade with a big impact on your efficiency.

It not only looks great, but also feels exactly the same — and with
